Feeling Blue? But Which Shade of Blue?

After the last blog post about using the color blue, we had a lot of questions come in about which blue a person should pick for themselves. “Do I pick a Saturated, Whitened, Grayed or Blackened blue if I’m going to surround myself with blue this season?”

In answer to that, here are two questions to ask yourself when you are picking any color.

  • Are you drawn to it?
  • Does it make you feel inspired when you put it close to you?

Are you drawn to it?  If it were in a store, is it one of the first colors you see when you walk in, before you start to consider other options? Because we crave color, the color we are craving will grab our attention first and it will leave an impression. Pay attention to the impressions in our mind (or out loud) that pop up when we first see that particular color. That is good information.

Does it make you feel inspired when you put it close to you? We’ve talked about how sometimes we are drawn to our opposite; the same applies in color. Sometimes we are drawn to a color because it is our opposite. If that color were a person, we would want to take it to dinner and have a great conversation with it. That’s why you try it on. If it is a piece of wardrobe, like a shirt, it will feel frumpy on us if it is not our design. If it is something we want around us the feeling won’t be quite as dramatic, but will still have the same effect, so again just pay attention to the impressions it leaves when you put it close; that will tell you a lot.

Remember that we have all four of the designs in us, so we will want a little of all of them at one time or another, so pay attention to what is truly inspiring us in that moment.

Also remember that everyone is a masterpiece!

Are You Feeling Blue?

One of the top trend colors this season is BLUE. You can spread it through your life this trend season and it will bring peace and creativity.  You can use it in wardrobe, home interior, cooking and, most importantly, it is a great color to add to your self-care routine.

The color blue promotes introspection, and when we surround ourselves with it, it takes our thoughts all the way to the end of their true intention. It tends to block defenses and fear so we can finish a thought process in whatever way our particular thought process works.

Blue is also calming and is intangible. It can promote creativity in task, in artistry, and emotional creativity.

One trick you can use to enhance the power or experience of blue in your life is to couple it with orange. Orange will enhance the properties of the color blue. If it is accompanied by any orange it will boost the blue’s effect.

In your wardrobe you can add just a little orange to your blue through an accent. Remember the rule that the more intense the blue, the more subdued the orange should be, or vice-versa. You don’t want the two competing.

In your surroundings just make sure that there is more blue than orange to enhance the effects of the blue. Otherwise you will be enhancing the color orange and you will create the opposite effect.

So if you are “feeling blue,” go out and find ways to surround yourself with the color blue this season!

Remember, everyone is a masterpiece.

FREE Webinar! The Science, The Study, The Art

At Human Art, when we meet someone new we can determine their personality within seconds of them walking through the door. The concept of a “Harmony” is the principle in which we can determine what personality traits they have. We can do that because each harmony has elements that cluster, where one is so are the others—we can count on that fact. We use four elements: color, line, sound and movement. The colors that you have an affinity to, the lines in your bone structure, your sound when you speak and also non-verbal sounds, and your movement-how you walk, how you sway your arms when you walk, etc.

When asked, most people can recognize different lines in bone structure. They at least understand the concept. A lot of people can even see the sound and movement reasonably in others when looking for it. The element that we get the most questions on is how we use color. We want to explain that to you. For that reason, we are hosting a free webinar to explain about color.

We will be giving you insights into the business of Human Art and how we use color. We are going to focus on you that night and how that can benefit you.

Your Homework

This week while we are preparing for the webinar, your job is to notice how many times a day you are required to pick a color you like. Observe what is going on at the time and who is asking you and for what purposes. It could be someone asking you your favorite color (that's a classic). Maybe it’s for a gift someone wants to give you, so they ask you to pick a color. Maybe it’s a business owner being asked to pick a color for a business card or paint for a new office. Maybe it’s a mom trying to motivate a child. A hairdresser trying to design a new look. A designer creating something just for you…

Keep track on your phone or jot it down on paper and let’s talk about it on Monday. Can’t wait to see you then!

Remember, everyone is a masterpiece.

Human Art Trend Alert: Fall Color

I woke up this morning and realized it was a beautiful, sunny August morning. We have plans to celebrate the important August birthdays of loved ones in our life. Conversations of all the exciting vacations everyone around us have been experiencing are being had. It’s a time when a familiar feeling of starts to warm my soul. It’s the same one I get every year at this time. Even though the sun is still shining bright to remind me it is still summer, I know I can start to anticipate, or begin to romance, the feeling of fall. I am still enjoying the excitement of summer but I can hear the echoes of autumn leaves, pumpkin spice, chilly mornings, and deep, quiet reflection.

I also realize that it is the exciting time when we get flooded with questions at Human Art about trend advice. For some reason this is the time of year we get the most questions in that category. Everything from, “what should I focus on for back to school shopping?” to “what is the one piece I can add to my wardrobe to update?” It makes me so happy because it feels as if we all woke up with the same feeling of “trend is in the air at Human Art.”

The best place to start is with the trend colors for fall. Let me give you a few quick tips to start off.

First, color is key.
Each fall at Human Art we collect the trend colors from our sources in the fashion world. We then mindfully simplify that advice or ‘consumerize” it if you will, to make the feeling of being “on trend” more accessible. We like to make it simple for you to create an expression of your authenticity. The simplest and, to me, most important place to begin is with color. Color will create the biggest impact on a ward robe or a fashion expression of any kind.

The stars this year in color are blue and violet, the supporting role is played by gold, and the contrast is taupe with white or bone.

Second, find a color in your design.
If you love the color, it is likely your design. Think of the communication the color has. If it’s sophisticated then it is probably Saturated, playful-Whitened, elegant-Grayed, earthy-Blackened. For example, if you are considering a blue article of clothing, you would just ask yourself as you look at the color, “What does it communicate?”

Third (and most important to me), whatever you chose, wear it like you love it.
Confidence is the most attractive part of any trend. When you love its expression, so will everyone else. Express who you are authentically and show off your confidence in yourself and who you are.

Remember everyone is a masterpiece.
